Welch Launches Barbershop Conversation Series, Helping People Make Their Voices Heard
WESTCHESTER, Ill. – House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch is hearing directly from community members on the topics that matter most to them at a series of conversations at barbershops, giving people a chance to share their thoughts on affordability, on the situation in Washington, on economic opportunity, and more—all while they get their hair cut.
“When people have to go out of their way to make their voices heard, we see how too often they aren’t heard at all—and we see how the challenges we face get worse when young men and Black men in particular don’t feel engaged,” Welch said. “It shouldn’t be so hard to feel heard and seen. These visits are literally about meeting people where they are, hearing their concerns, and showing them that they can be a part of the solution.”
Welch kicked off his “Shop Talk” series recently at Al’s Barbershop in Hillside, meeting dozens of people going about their daily routine and having conversations about state and national issues. Welch will hold another stop at a suburban barbershop next month.
